The Vancouver Art Gallery hosted an exhibit titled “Grand Hotels” which explored how hotels have evolved from what they call “simple utilitarian structures to cultural phenomenons.”
As we are now witnessing, hotels are no longer singular isolated structures, but key developments which help characterize the landscapes of cities. Interestingly enough, the Vancouver Art Gallery’s online slideshow features an old picture of the Grand Hotel in Edmonton which sits across the street from Edmonton’s new Arena District (10266 103 Street). In a previous life, it was also known as the Richelieu Hotel.
