Edmonton’s second annual Park(ing) Day was held last Friday, temporarily occupying numerous parking stalls on Namêw (97 Street) and Okisikow Way (101a Avenue) east of Canada Place. Organized by The Drawing Room, the City of Edmonton’s CityLab and the U of A’s City Region Studies Centre, the event is described as:
“PARK(ing) Day Edmonton empowers people to co-create safe, inspiring and inclusive spaces with the community. We hope to catalyze conversation at the intersection of geography and culture while strengthening a shared sense of belonging to this place. We asked participants, “How might public spaces better accommodate and celebrate the diverse people that live here?” Working within the parameters of an 8 by 24 foot parking stall, participants embraced the challenge by submitting proposals that engage passersby, get creative with urban design, and celebrate diversity.”
Thanks to everyone who helped make this year’s event a public space success!
