You know, I always wonder if politicians actually pay attention to the many ways in which their election signs are defaced. Often enough, the vandalism consists of a bit of grassroots (though usually poorly articulated) criticism.
Take this ADQ sign for example. I spotted it in front of the Rialto on Park Avenue during the 2005 provincial by-election in Outremont. This was just over a year before the ADQ’s unexpected surge across the province, but since we’re talking about the centre of Montreal, you can pretty much guess which party won. (Hint: it starts with an “L.”) Needless to say, the ADQ isn’t too popular here.
The graffiti on the sign reads as follows: “So let me get this straight… you’re standing for the people? Or are you really just standing in their way! You smiling out front, them in the back and out of focus. And the fact that your poster is so &#?!! BIG tells me you spent a lot of this —> $ on your image!”
