Some of you might remember last year’s Dream Listener, a project by Karen Spencer that saw the Montreal artist write her dreams on scraps of discarded cardboard which she then placed at various locations around town. During the run of her project, which ended in November, Spencer maintained a Dream Listener blog; she was also featured in the Gazette not once but twice, in Steve Faguy’s blog column and in an article I wrote on ephemeral art.

Spencer has been called “a wanderer, a loiterer, a rider of trains, a circulator of dreams” who “takes the mundane events of ordinary life and mines these for their poetic underpinnings.” If you missed seeing her work in person, here’s your chance: she will be one of the artists featured this Monday, February 4 at the Festival Voix d’Amériques. Photos of Dream Listener will be projected on a screen while a CD, which combines excerpts of dreams told to Karen with narration of her own experiences and encounters with people on the street, plays in the background.
