Vers 1950-2008

  1. wow, that’s a nice one, but what’s that large building there on dominion square? (south, behind the bus station)

  2. The Black and White Top Photo Looking East on Dorchester Blvd was taken in 1958 or Later as the White Car to Left in Front of the Greyhound Bus Station appears to be a 1958 Pontiac.

Side-by-Side Headlamps = Four 4 appeared on Autos after 1957? depending on Manufacturer along with 12 Volt Electricals.

Dorchester Blvd. was Completely Rebuilt in 1955 by Charles Duranceau Ltee of the Maple Leafs in the Sidewalks, and with the Installation of the Centre Divider and Streetlights, after Streetcars and their Rails were Removed and Replaced by the 150 Dorchester Autobus East from Terminus Atwater by the Forum.

To the Right at this Location the Landmark, ( still Evident in 2007 ) Guaranteed Pure Milk ‘Bottle’ Water Tower for Building Fire Sprinklers was visible just West of Gare Windsor of the CPR.

A Few Blocks East of this Photo, Beyond the Sun Life Building on the North Side, a Person could look down on CNR ‘Grotto’ and watch the Electric Locomotives and MU Suburban Trains Enter and Exit the Mount Royal Tunnel.

The Renaming of Dorchester came later. Must have been the Apostrophe?

  3. Another View of Dorchester Blvd Looking East in 1952 showing Streetcar Tracks and their Wires, and an Orange and Black Provincial Transport Autobus heading East from the Terminus.

CN ‘Grotto’, Now Covered by Place Ville Marie, is to the Left a Block beyond the Approaching Chevrolet Truck.

The Queen Elizabeth Hotel would later be Constructed on the Right beyond the Church.

  4. Here is a photo taken by my father of the PTC Terminus on Dorchester Blvd. in September 1938.

Note streetcar tracks before the 1955 Charles
Duranceau Ltee rebuild and the older style street
    lamps

Note also the once-common 3-wheel grocery delivery
bicycle which were used well into the sixties for
    local grocery/épicerie home deliveries.
