TTC suspends streetcar purchases

Toronto’s bright red streetcars are a unique and wonderful part of the city’s character. The current vehicles, however, no longer live up to the Toronto’s transportation needs. Last month, TTC Chair Adam Giambrone announced plans for 120 kilometers of new light rail tracks and the addition of new and accessible streetcars. Matthew Blackett shares an email from the TTC announcing their rejection of TRAM Power Ltd and Bombardier Transportation submissions for the project.

Toronto from a San Franciscan’s perspective

Highway lessons from Shanghai?

With the announcement of city council’s plan to take down the eastern section of the Gardiner Expressway, Torontonians are presented with the chance to imagine a transportation route that facilitates more than traffic rushing from point A to point B. Matthew Blackett takes a look at Shanghai’s elevated expressway, which features a pedestrian walkway in between the ground-level streets and the expressway.
