  1. Very large Maghrebi community in eastern Villeray and St-Michel now, along with what remains of the old Italian community, and the Haitians who have established themselves there and elsewhere in northeastern Montréal in recent decades. Interesting to explore, despite the bland postwar architecture of that part of Villeray. Many Maghrebis have taken over management of Italian cafés, and of course there are a lot of interesting small groceries, butcher’s and Maghrebi pastry shops.

A bit north and slightly east of there in St-Michel, la Tohu has made a point of fostering and spotlighting young talent from the new cultural communities of the area.
