Photo du jour: Acadian houses

These houses at the bottom of L’Acadie Boulevard, right next to the metro station, have always struck me as a bit odd. They’re completely unlike the rest of the housing stock in Park Ex and, in fact, they don’t even look much like Montreal houses at all.

  1. There’s also a big house set at angle to the street. Have you noticed it? It was the home of an ex-colleague of mine, built by her dad at an angle so as to to face the setting sun.

L’Acadie was once a much quieter rural street and some of these original homes were built more like cottages.

  2. Hey, I wonder if spacing could introduce a “Preview” function to these posts. I’m always forgetting to proof read, making typos and sounding like a dumb-ass. I’m not. Really.

  3. Another street with houses out of character for the neighbourhood – or anywhere in central-eastern MontrĂ©al – is Christophe-Colomb, north of the viaduct but south of Beaubien (or St-Zotique). There are some houses with steep roofs that are not at all typical architecture here.

  4. I know exactly the houses you’re talking about Maria. Those houses look like transplants from Toronto.
