If you find yourself in London, England anytime soon, you may want to check out the work of the Village Underground in the Shoreditch neighbourhood. They have taken discarded London subway cars, placed them on top of a renovated Victorian warehouse building and converted the trains into creative workspaces. All the cars have carbon-neutral heat and power and are ecologically outfitted. [ via Treehugger ]

This is nice! :) I’d like to see stuff like this here.
Cachez cette culture que je ne saurais voir:
New York subway cars have been converted into artificial reefs to help fish hide from predators and multiply. Will London office workers seek refuge from the boss and multiply in these overbuilding underground cariages? À Montréal des voitures de Métro pourraient servir de refuges pour les artistes victimes de coupures de programmes
culturels.
This re-use of subway cars for living/working space reminds me of Stewart Brand’s discussion, in the Low Road chapter of his book How Buildings Learn, of the use of standard shipping containers for such – but these have the advantage of already having windows.
