08/10 – Urban Connect: Art & Community Activism

Panel discussion with artists and community activists from Montreal and NYC, followed by dance and poetry performances. The local panelists are Emily Rose Michaud from Sprout Out Loud!  and Felix Rebolledo, member of Committee for the Sustainable Redevelopment of Griffintown.

09/10 – Rebecca Solnit: The Ruins of Hope, Hope in the Ruins

Rebecca Solnit is the author of several books about politics and the landscape, including Hollow City: The Siege of San Francisco and the Crisis of American Urbanism (co-authored by Susan Schwartzenberg), Wanderlust: A History of Walking and most recently Storming the Gates of Paradise: Landscapes for Politics. She is currently receiving a grant to do independant research at the Canadian Centre for Architecture and speaks as part of the Mellon Conference Series.

11/10 – LES ARBRES DE McGILL: de Sherbrooke à la montagne

Bronwyn Chester, auteure de la série “Les mardis des arbres” sur Spacing Montreal, offre une visite guidée du seul corridor vert qui reste entre la rue Sherbrooke et le Mont Royal, le campus de l’Université McGill, un véritable arborétum du centre-ville. Parmi les 70 espèces d’arbres, les érables, noyers et ginkgos seront à l’honneur! Apportez de l’eau et une collation.

Spacing Montreal author Bronwyn Chester offers a guided tour of the last green corridor between Sherbrooke Street and Mount Royal, the McGill University campus, a veritable downtown arboretum. Among the 70 species, the walnuts, maples and ginkgos will be at their best! Bring water and a snack.

 11/10 – Rencontre au champ / Meet in the field

Sprout Out Loud organize une randonée dans le terrain vague, appartenant au CP, au nord du Plateau Mont-Royal. Les organizatrices écrivent: “On va promener un peu dans l’entourage avec Melissa Campbell, photographe. On va voir le champ, d’en haut (du 12ie étage), la résidence des Carmélites, le chemin de fer, les industries et dévelopements récents et anciens on réservera aussi quelques photos pour le catalogue. Ammenez vos idées, carnets, caméras, ou ce que vous voulez.”

Sprout Out Loud is gathering folks for a Saturday afternoon walk through the meadow that borders the north end of the Plateau. The organizers write “we will be wandering through parts of the field and nearby with photographer, Melissa Campbell. Viewing it from the 12th floor of an overlooking building, visiting the Carmelite nuns, the train tracks, the resident weeds, the recent and dying out industries and businesses, we will be reserving some photos from this walk for the catalogue. Bring your sketch books, cameras, whatever you wish.”
