  1. That is a beautiful park. Remember the first time I came across it, and the lovely old buildings surrounding it. At the time St-Henri was very, very poor.

  2. If I remember correctly, back in the late ’90s, they removed the original statue from the park for a little “face lift.” It took longer than expected, so they made a “fake” one to put in the park.
So, like others, my guess is that the one in the metro is the real one, and they never bothered replacing the one in the park.

  3. Yep, the original statue is in the metro station although it started out atop the fountain. According to a sign in the metro, it was badly weathered(it is made out of copper leaf fastened to a wooden core) so the city moved the original to the metro station in ’92 and replaced it with a replica.

Maria – I am also particularly attached to this park. My parents were living in a rented an apartment on the western block when I was born. Soon after, the landlord asked them to leave so his daughter could move in (this would have been around 1982. I’d be willing to bet they renovated and re-rented at a much higher rate…).

  4. Is this landlord bashing really necessary Alanah?
The investments made at the grass roots level by many individual owners (landlord has such a deliberate negative overtone), to renovate these beautiful buildings and gentrify this once run down neighborhood should be applauded. All of this was achieved by individuals, usually spending hard saved after tax dollars in a neigborhood few wanted to invest in at the time. By the way the Park is called “Park Guay”, not ST Henri park. Thanks for the trivia.
