and soon to have a Route Verte bike path alongside it extending north to the Pont Perry?
A little further to the East from the view above we have CP 5114 climbing the Hochelaga Hill from CPR Hochelaga Yard, the harbour, CNR Moreau Street and their connection to Pointe aux Trembles with the large red and white checkerboarded gas holder looming over all.

The locomotive is almost on the flat along the West side of CPR Angus Shops at Rachel and the Fireman will soon be shutting off his Stoker as the Engineer eases back on the throttle and adjusts the valve cutoff for more steam expansion.
The Fireman will definitely be watching the water glass in the cab as the locomotive levels out, the water moving forward on the flat.
The smoke will diminish.
The first three cars behind the locomotive are stock cars for transporting live horses and cattle to the abattoirs in the East end and on Bridge and Mill Streets in the Pointe.
In the second view, another train is rolling by Angus Shops to the left, the smoke from it’s climbing of the Hochelaga Hill still lingering in the sky behind.
Stock cars to the right in the siding next to the packing house nearby.
Its 1959 and within a year steam locomotives would be gone, following Tramways streetcars and the Lachine Canal into history.
A different, and in many ways, a better time, full of optimism and hope.
After all, we had just conquered Polio and received cable TV!
New COLOUR TVs in the States! everyone was getting a CAR!!
I still miss steam engines.
They put on a wonderful show.
Thank You.
Hey CDNLOCOCO: I’ve been up for a visit to Exporail in Saint-Constant for a long time now. I’m sure you’ve been there (probably founded the joint!) but this is my proposal:
You lead a tour for all of us Spacing Montréal readers who are mesmerised by your narratives!
Think about it, and say yes!
