  1. Painting brick inevitably leads to spalling of the brick surface. Brick should never be painted, and cities should discourage if not forbid the practice. Bricks have to allow moisture from rain on the outside and humidity migrating through the wall from the inside, to evaporate from the outside surface of the brick when the weather dries. Read up on the Law of Partial Vapour Pressures for further explanations. Never paint brick – never.
