1. I will always, always lament the wonderful lunch counter place they did away with to install this candy joint.

   Anyone else go to the place I mean? It was like the Schwartz’s of Chinatown. Always bustling. Great cheap dim sum. And now it’s gone, to sell candy almost that no one buys, with a trinket shop next door.

   Beats the hell out of me.

2. Yes, I know which one you mean. “Ho Ho” was what it was called in Chinese. There was a long lunch counter with a lot of old Chinese men sitting there drinking coffee and shooting the breeze. They made great butter rolls like no other I’ve tasted since in Chinatown. And nice egg tarts too. Sigh.

3. Thank you, Laiya. I remember their gelatinous rice flour cakes, and the best BBQ pork buns I’ve ever had.

   It’s sad, because for all the fancy arches and new plazas and such, places like this WERE Chinatown for me.

4. Lots of people buy Dragons Beard candy. I usually get it everytime I’m in Chinatown.

6. More than just dragon’s beard candy, the shop also makes a couple of HK-style street snacks, including egg balls and waffles with a condensed milk and peanut butter spread.
