  1. It is on Ste-Catherine, pretty much surrounded by Université du Québec, opposite the Berri-UQAM métro entrance and the remains of the much larger Église St-Jacques (parts of which are integrated into UQAM). Im wondering why they built this chapel opposite St-Jacques – probably some kind of oratory for a cult to the Virgin.

UQAM music department also gives concerts there, so you can visit it then, and it is open at times for people to go in and pray – so you can explore the inside then as long as you are quiet and respectful of worshippers.

  2. Je pensais voir mon église quand j’étais tout petit à Verdun. IL y a une autre paroise Notre-Dame-de-Lourdes sur la Rue Verdun, coin 5e avenue.

  3. “Jesus a perdu son halo.” – Une métaphore pour la Révolution tranquille?

  4. I would think that’s Mary, not Jesus.

  5. Well, logically it would be Mary if it is Notre-Dame de Lourdes. I looked at the flicker image which is a tiny bit bigger and it does appear to be a female form.

Here is an earlier spacing montage of what was across the street: https://spacing.ca/montreal/2008/08/14/montage-du-jour-leglise-saint-jacques/ I know Église Saint-Jacques was destroyed or severely damaged by fire; I don’t know whether the first photo predates the fire or not. Think the remains of the original church were what was kept to be integrated into UQAM: the façade and the bell-tower. La Salle des boiseries, from the church, is a nice place to hobnob at UQAM events…
