  1. Future generations will despise this era in “architecture”.

That is, if the current building are well built enough to last that long…

  2. The greystone-like building recently erected there did not replace the top buildings – hadn’t the building earlier there burnt down or been demolished due to neglect?

I do find the architect of the new building attempted to build something that would suit its surroundings, in terms of colour, materials and forms. I’ve seen much worse.

  3. Voici une photographie prise par John Allison en 1985 qui démontre que les maisons semblaient alors être en mauvais état :

    Sherbrooke Street

  4. OMG!! But it’s not like they teared down those buildings to build the new one. If they had tried to imitate the old ones you would be criticizing them for being cheap imitations. This side of the street looks nice to me as it is now. The other side however around Av. Park is pretty ugly, and dirty.

  5. Interesting…part of me wishes it matched the same setback as the others, but at least it’s a very similar scale not only to the others on the block but to the buildings in the immediate vicinity. I don’t know if that’s enough to save it, though. I feel they could have used nicer materials at least, rather than materials that cheaply imitate its surroundings–this building would fit in better with the newer townhomes built along the highway out in La Prairie, not something belonging in the center of the metropolis.
