I’m not sure why, but the Lachine canal is looking a little empty these days.

They partially drain the canal for the winter to allow maintenance or whatever Parks Canada decides to do.
Not the first time they’ve lowered the water level on the canal. They seem to do it over the winter (although not last year). Perhaps it’s to minimize ice damage to the locks?
J’ai l’impression qu’il le baisse à chaque hiver. À côté de mon bureau, près de l’ancienne usine Redpath, il y a quelques quais connectés sur le canal, qui sont à l’eau durant l’été et qui ont été récemment mis à sec.
Why can’t we skate there in the winter? It seems like such a lost opportunity, not to mention lost winter tourist dollars. We need to get better at celebrating winter in this city.
I always thought the same thing. It seems skating on the lachine canal would be very popular!
As for the picture, if you are standing at that angle and look down, you can see that there are a surprising amount of shopping carts that somehow ended up in the water…
