Canadian Urbanism Uncovered

  1. I love this little urban garden, in the very centre of the hectic shopping district. Please note that its actual name is Raoul Wallenberg Square, for a Swedish diplomat who saved thousands of Jews from the Nazis and local Arrow Cross fascists while posted in Hungary, and who disappeared into a Stalinist prison camp in Siberia. http://www.raoulwallenberg.net/wallenberg/tributes/publicarea/raoul-wallenberg-square/

There is a large bust of Wallenberg in the square. Ironically, I first encountered it while enjoying lunch and sunshine at the square, taking a break from interpreting … at an anti-racist event taking place at an Anglican Church building hall, one of the buildings surrounding the square.

I hope the warm days – at last – are bringing forth spring flowers.
