Gosh, I hope the University and STC do something artsy with the tunnel, to make it both attractive and utilitarian, rather than just the usual tile work.
Better be better ventilated than the tunnels round peel metro too, there are parts that are almost criminal in those things.
Yes. The city does not need another grim, forbidding tunnel that people will avoid using. I’ll take my chances with the cars.
Is this tunnel under Maisonneuve, or under Guy?
It seems to me that the tunnel under Maisonneuve is the one that links that library to the Hall bldg, and it’s already been open for years.
@qatzelok, it’s the new one that links the one you mention and the subway station. Hall and Library buildings were linked together but not linked to the subway station and the newer buildings. They now will be. It’s under Maisonneuve but in an east-west axis following Maisonneuve.
I’m a bit disappointed, de Maisonneuve was a mess for so long… for this? Those tiles on the left side of the picture look depressing. Hopefully once it’s completly finished it will look better.
We can’t pass judgment until the tunnel is complete. My only hope is that the water infiltration common around Guy metro doesn’t occur in the new tunnel as well.
It is a fine alternative to dodging cars & the wonderful weather we have.
Now … Time to green Mackay!! Make it a pedestrian promenade. Enough of the excuses why……. It’s been way to long.

The tunnel may better than dodging cars, but it’s no replacement for an exterior campus space.
^During the summer, or parts of Spring or Fall, I would agree. But some days in winter are excruciatingly cold. It’s also useful on rainy days and for the easiness of transferring things between buildings (like equipment), etc.
Of course, it would be great if there was some nice campus space for Concordia downtown. I would demolish the Tim Hortons building on the corner of Guy and De Maisonneuve, and buy up the adjacent parking lots and put some kind of a park there.
Looks pretty grim to me, as far as additions to our fair underground network go.
But who the hell cares? This time of year, any shitty old warm-cut is preferable to trudging down de Maisonneuve while the wind is trying to pull your underwear down around your miserably chilly ankles.
That said, Victor Prus would not be impressed.
Apparently something happened the other day and work crew where back on maisonneuve digging up the street. Collapse or pipe burst perhaps? So it doesn’t look like we will get that tunnel this winter.
May want to check out:
Back to Toronto Public Against Rude And Lazy Toronto Transit Operators on Facebook or suggest it for those in Toronto.
But last night I did watch a new Documentary on Transit primarily about Detroit, and the U.s, but showing glimpses of Spain, and saw a Metro Station in Tehran even, and the political ramifications and mumbo-jumbo, it was quite interesting….PLEASE send this out to everybody you know, it may be the first of MANY new transit documentaries to come…..

You will find this extremely fascinating!
I agree about the artwork in the tunnels too!
