  1. It is impressive, but I can’t help but feel this is yet another white elephant for a city that has too many as is.
This superhospital is effectively already outdated given current hospital design and architectural philosophy, and its location, as we already know, is inherently problematic. As if Peter Trent acting as stick-in-the-mud wasn’t bad enough, the brilliant minds behind the superhospital haven’t even considered connecting the site directly to Vendome Station. How this could have been an oversight is beyond me and smells like typical ‘oops, I guess we’ll have to tender another contract’ construction industry BS – in my opinion.
What’s worse – what will become of the Vic, the Children’s, the Chest Institute etc? I find it hard to believe these facilities will be kept, and I doubt anyone would want to see condos in their place. So then what? I’d love to know what the Spacing community thinks: see here: http://www.taylornoakes.com/?p=304

  2. And building the Olympique stadium didn’t use many tower cranes? I understand that they hired cranes from as far away as calgary! How soon we forget these details. The Gazette reported in 6 april 1979 that the Stadium project used 100 construction cranes.

I don’t think the hospital’s claim holds any water at all.

Much like the claim that we needed a new hospital (and a pair of them at that) which is really just a hyper-expensive game of mine-is-bigger-than-your played with billions of taxpayer dollars. Disgusting.
