Public Transit in Ottawa’s Peter Raaymakers has previewed the four main types of station  platform  for Ottawa’s proposed new subway. The artist’s conceptions were recently displayed for public inspection at the main library on Metcalfe Street. Raaymakers comes out in favour of the “Centre Platform” option shown above; for images of the other three designs, along with useful commentary on the process, check the PTIO post here.

  1. Has anyone broken it to the tunnel fans that these stations will all have to be built cut-and-cover, resulting in giant holes in the street all through downtown?

My money is on very basic stations, lacking any amenities: basically side platforms with elevators and escalators to the street, meaning no mezzanine. My hedge is a bet on the abandonment of the tunnel idea.

Assuming that’s true, solely for the sake of argument, that’s a problem, why?
