As Ian Capstick recently wrote in the Citizen, the #iwantamayorwho hashtag on twitter is an excellent place to join the conversation about the kind of mayor you want for Ottawa. This week many of the tweets seem to revolve around the incumbent mayor, as in #iwantamayor who doesn’t (fill in the blank with any move from the Larry O’Brien playbook) but Andy Haydon has been taking some shots too, and some special interest groups are using it to say what it would take to please them.
So far the only candidate tweet we’ve seen that actually incorporates the hashtag is from the Clive Doucet team. Front runner Watson probably feels no need to mix it up in a forum where the rules are few and far between, but as Larry O’Brien flounders in the polls and takes hits from the mainstream media, surely he’d have nothing to lose by going beyond the mere one-way “broadcast” aspect of Twitter and instead make his points where the discussion really happens.
