Some pictures from Saturday’s’s demonstration in front of the Urbandale Sales Centre in Kanata by supporters of the South March Highlands. More information on the Highlands can be seen here; there is also an online petition campaign to save the Highlands.

It was great to be there. A deep demonstration – even serene. No angry slogans, though it would have been understandable. A short circle of silent respect for trees and forest animals where there’s now housing development. Everyone determined to protect the live forest that’s still there. Wm Commanda’s blessings and original peoples’ reminder of unceded continuity from archaeology (studies not done) to biodiversity of turtle species at risk here. Two songs. Ottawa communities coming together to get response from the amalgamated city and developers. Thanks.

An intriguing financial swap has been offered to the land-owning developers by South March Highlands-Carp River Conservation Inc. See it at
