This evening, the Architectural Conservancy of Ontario will be presenting ten awards during their annual dinner, held at the Toronto Arts and Letters Club. Founded in 1933, the ACO is celebrating its 80th anniversary this year, and is the province’s leading non-governmental, built heritage and conservation organization. The awards and ceremony are meant to recognize and celebrate those working in architectural preservation, as well as innovative projects and contributions to heritage conservation in Ontario.
Of the ten presentations, this year’s ACO NextGen Award is being presented to Nancy Oakley, executive director of the Yukon Historical & Museums Association. Oakley has ties to Ottawa, where she has organized ‘heritage socials’, as well as the inaugural, student-run, Carleton Heritage Symposium in 2011, and has since assisted in the running of the 2012 and 2013 events. In addition to this, Oakley is also a board member for the ICOMOS Canada and is involved with the Canadian Museums Association and the Heritage Canada Foundation.
According to the organization, “The ACO NextGen Award is given to an emerging professional who has made a significant contribution to heritage conservation in Ontario and/or to the engagement of students or young peers in heritage work.”
