Canadian Urbanism Uncovered

The news from NOW and Eye

If you haven’t picked up a copy of this week’s NOW you should try to find the few remaining copies that float around coffee shops or burger joints. They have a number of public space related articles: a run-down of the tall buildings forum from a few weeks ago; a story on BENCHmark, a public art project using benches that was started in Liberty Village and hopes to expand into other parts of the city (Spacing did a profile of this initiative in our current issue); and the efforts of the City to deal with the environmental effects of snow removal.

Over at the Eye Weekly blog, Spacing‘s Dale Duncan has two posts about parking spaces — maybe not the sexiest of public space issues, but certainly one of the most passionate debates amongst residents and store owners. And in the print edition, Duncan profiles Who Runs This Town?, an initiative that encourages people to run for city council (the city election, which takes place on November 13, will be a topic of discussion here at Spacing starting in the Spring).
