As Dylan Reid posted a few days ago, there is a bit of a community uproar in Etobicoke’s New Toronto neighbourhood. It seems residents don’t want a skateboard park in a waterfront park. “We are paving over what is one of the most beautiful pieces of parkland in the city for what is basically a flat piece of ground,” said Jem Cain, co-chair of New Toronto Good Neighbours. On the other side of the debate are the skaters who think the new park is uninspiring. “There is nothing of interest there,” said an Etobicoke skateboard shop owner. “We wanted something unique, and a huge part of that is a bowl.” As one skater said, “We have the best skating plaza — it’s called downtown Toronto.” Articles in NOW and the Star.

Also in the Star today is a piece about young falcons who are crashing into downtown buildings. “They don’t know what a window is,” said Linda Woods, of the Canadian Peregrine Foundation. “With peregrines, because they are built for speed, they take off, turn a corner and then hit a window,” Woods said.
