UPDATE: Gardiner reopens [ Toronto Star ]

If you’re a driver and the thought of Monday’s Gardiner closure sends shivers down your spine, then you’ll be glad to hear that as of 9:00 a.m. Tuesday morning, Police determined that the Gardiner Expressway was ready for business as usual.
We first wrote about this fiasco last Friday when the threat of falling ice from the CN Tower began. The Gardiner was then shutdown early Monday morning (and for the rest of the day) between Spadina and Yonge, both directions, causing excessive traffic in the core and many TTC surface route delays.
So after a 24-hour traffic nightmare, both directions of the expressway are now open, although there are still some TTC disruptions along the King streetcar route, while some intersections around the CN Tower will remain closed for an undetermined amount time.

Is it really a fiasco when sheets of ice are puncturing windshields on Front? Granted, only one or two, but I’m sure we’d all be eager to blog our little hearts out if the powers that be didn’t close the streets and someone was hurt.
