The Ontario Smart Growth Network is holding a seminar on March 29, 2007 at the Toronto Botanical Gardens.

What this seminar will do is provide provincial, municipal and development industry perspectives on the implementation of the Greater Golden Horseshoe Greenbelt and Growth Plans, and revised Provincial Policy Statement. This seminar will also be able to explain the impact of these initiatives on land use in your community and provide some networking opportunities.

There will be two panels; Provincial Smart Growth Policies, and Implementation of Smart Growth Policies. The first panel will be headed by Ken Peterson and Victor Doyle from the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing, as well as Jason Thorne representing the Ministry of Public Infrastructure Renewal. They will be providing you with their perspectives on how the Greenbelt and Growth Plans, and revised Provincial Policy Statement and Planning Act plans will be implemented and their roles in the process.

The second panel will be with Bruce Krushelnicki, City of Burlington, Kevin Eby, Regional Municipality of Waterloo and Frank Giannone, Ontario Home Builders Association’s Second Vice-President and President of the FRAM Building Group. They will discuss their perspectives on the implementation of the new provincial plans and policies as well as an overview of their experience so far.

These panels will be followed by the launch of the Municipal Implementation Constellation, a steering committee of the Ontario Smart Growth Network. They will have their inaugural meeting to strategize about how provincial land use policies can be translated into smart growth at the local level. This meeting will only be open to OSGN members.
