The one thing that makes me uneasy about banning the airport cabs is from an environmental standpoint that it reduces the carbon footprint by 50% – I would prefer a solution where the airport cabs paid a separate licence fee to the City and Toronto cabs had a reciprocal arrangement at the airport.
The fees could go to improving Toronto cab standards and inspections so we have the best cabs out there – not back into central funds to pay for councillor golf memberships.
Obviously the best thing would be a GO/VIA stop at Woodbine *and* subway or LRT right into the airport grounds but until reliable mass transit is feasible cabs and airport coaches will have to do.
