Politicans seems to be getting way too excited by a simple fare card of which, without a whole new fare structure, will provide minimal benefits. When Hazel McCallion says “It’s the only way we’ll have efficient rapid transit in the GTA”, it’s all hyperbole.
This thing is a stored value card like the New York Metrocard, lose the card, lose the stored value. Forget to fill the card, oops can’t get on the darn bus. If we must spend megabux on this high tech whiz bang crap we could at least go for a system with more going for is than a straight stored value paradigm.
^if you buy a month pass Metrocard with a credit card and lose it, you can call a 1-800 number and get it redeemed.
I don’t know why the TTC didn’t sign on to this project. With all the cash McGuinty was throwing around last week they would have surely been able to get their end of the implementation funded.
