For those with access to a radio this afternoon: Spacing associate editors Shawn Micallef and Dylan Reid will be on Here and Now with Matt Galloway talking about the City’s new walking strategy. They go on the air around 4:30. This week, Galloway is exploring the potential headlines and issues of 2008 for Toronto and City Hall. Dylan is the co-chair of the City of Toronto’s Pedestrian Committee and Shawn is also a member of the advisory group.

Nice to have the heads up. As there were two killings by car over the weekend by the serial killer of the cartillery, maybe the good advocates and guests could point out that the cars often kill more people than guns do in Caronto, and it’s not so fair to blame the victims as much as racing/inattentive car drivers. Of course the cops tend to be “carist” – not always – but driving is a privilege not a right etc. etc.
Give it a rest for a few days will you. YOU are starting to sound like the serial killer to me.

How’d it go?
It was good – thanks for asking. It was my first radio experience, so that was fun. The host asked good questions and gave us lots of time to speak, and I think we made some useful points, although of course afterwards I thought of so much more I could have said.
One of the many reasons I like to listen to CBC Radio One is its friendly voices that create for me an atmosphere of the big Canadian family. Its variety of topics reminds me of Lake Manitoba which is at my door. In the summer one can watch it for hours and not be able to find two similar waves. In the winter the team work of the wind and snow create an amazing collection of curves on its frozen surface. The interview with the Quebec professor about the Canadians’ independent thinking versus the manipulative tendencies in the political news and commercial advertisements was an intellectual delight for me. In the same manner I enjoyed the interview with the maker of the silent movie and his lady colleague. The cards sent to the soldiers by the primary school students and the debates about the US elections and so on are mental stimulants for our multicultural society with interests in the global issues. Thank you for the good work.
