Cross-posted from Spacing Montreal
Not too long ago I picked up a copy of an interesting little zine, Savfaire, from the counter of a Mile End boutique. Now, with the launch of its second issue, featuring a cover illustration by Jack Dylan, I’m even more intrigued.
Based in Vancouver, but loaded with contributions from Toronto and Montreal, Savfaire has turned its attention to the neighbourhoods of those three cities, travelling all the way from Park Ex to Mount Pleasant via NDG, Rexdale and Gastown, among others.
A couple other highlights include a article on Vancouver Specials, an ugly but highly-adaptable kind of housing, built mainly in the 1960s and 70s, that is Vancouver’s answer to Montreal’s plexes; and an amusing guide to defending yourself from pigeons.
You can read all of the articles online — there’s also a Flash version of the print edition.

where to pick up in TO?
There’s a distribution list here:
http://www.savfaire.com/directory
Oddly enough, though, there are no Toronto locations listed, even though the magazine clearly states that it is distributed in Toronto. You might want to send them an email.
Alternately, the magazine will mail a free copy to your home if you fill in this form:

yeah, I noticed all that but was hoping someone might know! I guess I’ll send them an email… Thanks for pointing this out!
