Whatever happened to Joe Cote? He was always Gov. Simcoe all through the 1980s and early 90s?
I just can’t believe we still have a lieutenant governor. Couldn’t we just spend that money on something that gets *some* value.
(not a commentary on the guy himself, I really have heard so little about him I don’t have an opinion, which kinda makes my point)
I’m not a monarchist or anything, but Government(s) need a mechanism to do the pomp and circumstance functions. In Republics they have a President carry out this role, generally. So the money would be spent anyway probably (and I wonder if it has an economic effect too) but our version is connected to our colonial heritage. We’ve had some good Lieutenant and GG’s recently, so I don’t mind so much.
This is a part of the political history of Ontario and Canada.
I am Canadian. Many generations of. History isn’t always about getting the best bang for your buck. Maybe more people need to embrace Canadian history. Learn about it. We all benefit for the hard work the generations before did.
