  1. Giambrone: a few cliches come to mind.

“Stick a fork in him and turn him over. He’s done.”

“Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned.”

Whether he slept with her or not, she’s just a vindictive &*%^&. I was not impressed with him, and I wouldn’t care about this if I were; however, a woman-scandal means he’s a true politician!

  2. Adam needs to get out of the mayoral race; this is getting ridiculous. Even as a left-wing pro-trainsit voter, I can’t imagine voting for him.

  3. If he has an ounce of sense, he’ll withdraw from the race.

  4. OK, For the conspiracy theorist out there, imagine this… Samg in a wig and the desire to entrap. If that proves too easy, replace samg with Joe Pantalone.

    🙂

  5. I love that the “Loyal Java Fans” article (bad link BTW) describes one of the Timmys-lovers as a “trained psychic”.

Giambrone’s team must be furious with him.

  6. On behalf of David McDonald…

‘It is hard to believe how badly the Transit Workers have acted against their own self interest. Last summer CUPE essentially destroyed Miller’s career by refusing to make moderate compromise during the strike and angered the public and humiliated Miller who thought they would see the light of day. Miller might still be the front runner in this election if CUPE had let him claim some sort of victory during the strike. Instead they have incited a backlash against the left that virtually guarantees that the winner of this election will be running against them.

Now the Transit Worker’s instead of playing smart and lying low are essentially destroying Giambrone’s chances to rehabilitate his image with belligerence that plays perfectly into his opponents interests. With friends like these….”

    David McDonald

  7. “If he has an ounce of sense…” Who’d be a politician?

  8. Why does Giambrone have to step down? Should Smitherman not run because he had a coke habit? Give me a reason why this issue means Giambrone couldn’t be mayor but Smitherman’s up to the job.

  9. Please Adam, stay in the race.

(I don’t want him back as a councillor running the TTC.)

  10. Giambrone of his campaign forged an e-mail from his ex-lover. That’s dishonesty, and indicates he and his team are not up to the job.

  11. I wasn’t going to comment on today’s story concerning Councillor Giambrone until I saw my name in one of the comments. Despite what some people on this blog might think, I don’t have a “hate-on” for Councillor Giambrone. It’s just that I see a basic lack of integrity and competence in how he operates (some of it based on personal experience). I certainly don’t think he is the only politician to show lack of integrity or competence. But whereas other folks I consider incompetent seem to get their deserved brickbats by Spacing readers, Councillor Giambrone is all too often written about in glowing terms and his faults overlooked, either for partisan reasons or because the commentators liked a few things he did. As a political figure, I think he is all spin. I consider him to be arrogant, a bully often unwilling to adress people’s concerns, too full of his own self-importance, glib and not half as intelligent as he seems to think he is.

But I also know that whatever his faults, there must be a real person there. Whatever the facts of this story are, I hope all the parties involved (including Councillor Giambrone) will get to a better place. (Though I sure hope to hell that place isn’t the mayor’s chair.)

PS. As for Jamesmallon’s comment about one of the women in question (“she’s just a vindictive &*%^&.”), all I can say is OINK, OINK, OINK.

  12. “Why does Giambrone have to step down?”

I don’t really care that much about the affair (was it an affair if Ms McQuarrie was merely a prop? So far she’s the one I feel sorry for, not AG or KL in all this, assuming she’s not Toronto’s answer to Elizabeth Edwards).

However, while it wasn’t in the Maxime Bernier league by a long shot, disclosing information in re: the fare hike was well offside, if that can be substantiated.

  13. Casa Loma: “With much fanfare, after rejecting other proposals, the city signed a 20-year renewal agreement to let the Kiwanis take up the challenge.” As I recall, it wasn’t just that there were other proposals but there was doubt that the Kiwanis were up to the job.

  14. Samg, I hope you didn’t take offence at my comment, it was all in good fun. I do agree with your assessment.

Now for the pressing questions, Did Adam Giambrone drop of Kristen at home using..

    A. The Bus
    B. The Streetcar
    C. Subway
    D. An automobile

  15. “why does Giambrone have to withdraw.”

Because the incredible pain and humiliation he has caused to his partner can only be mediated if he withdraws from public life for a while. To continue in an already lost cause out of pure hubris would be incredibly callous and another example of bad judgement.

  16. Adam Giambrone was an exercise in wishful thinking…

We were all wanting to believe he was thinking.

It all comes down to a question of not only judgement but how the difficulties are handled.

How has Adam handled his own constituents?
How has Adam handled the problems at the TTC?
How has Adam handled his relations with other councillors? (Cesar Palacio)

    I sense a trend here…

He’s still in the mayoral race. How’s his judgement there?

  17. samg, you just don’t like me, because I’ve implied your comments are puerile. You’ve made an assumption on the swear word.

The young woman is vindictive no matter her gender or sexuality: the behaviour is contemptible no matter what romantic entanglement you can imagine. This has nothing to do with his competence, though the public is more interested in drama than policy. We get the ‘democracy’ we deserve. I’m less concerned what he did with her than her claim his official romance is made up. If true, which I doubt, that goes to integrity.

  18. Along with the hours, and being expected to know a lot about stuff, we also have high expectations of the human politicians. Many of us are potentially on the fiuckle side – I know I get desstracted – and must remind myself to focus on the road!
So with Mr. Giambrone’s record, I appreciate some of the bike things he’s done, and some criticism too – one eg. being supportive of the “communication” of a Bloor bikeway about four+ years ago but moving more parking on Bloor a few weeks later. And prior to his first election, I believe he was against the Front St. Extension, but then Joe talked to him, and then he was supportive. There’s still the local Front St. floating around btw – for maybe $60M – Gord is now kinda on the blindp side of it.

  19. Just proves to me that, as much as I align with his ideology, Giambrone is far too green and inexperienced to make a run for such a big job.

I don’t think his staying in the race is truly a problem, but he’ll likely fall to the background as the big dogs fight it out for the votes.

Better luck next time, Adam, and hopefully a more diverse resume to show us by then.

  20. Can we stop talking about how Adam “Handles” things, whether he has to “withdraw”?

Seriously though, I don’t know if I can vote for Adam Giambrone in the coming erection. — sorry…

    I meant, election.

I don’t know if I can support Adam Giamboner in this coming election. — wait…

  21. Two important questions…

    1. Since she was 19, does her having sex with AG make her a “cougar”?

    2. What’s her number?

  22. To Jamesmallon,
I neither like nor dislike you. As for you thinking my comments are puerile, given some of the remarks you make, I see that as a badge of honor.
