The fact that only 25 people showed up to a forum on why people are not voting struck me as amusing.
No news at all about Michael Bryant’s trial starting today???
Spaced indeed.
“Suicide barriers a waste of TTC money”
That’s not what commuters were thinking when someone committed suicide at rush hour on the Bloor line yesterday.
@University Avenue bike lanes
I have mixed feeling about running this along the center instead of curb. Entry and exit of the lanes would be rather tricky. Left/u-turning cars might be a problem too. Since there is enough space for a one meter buffer, why not replace the curb lanes with bike lane, with that one meter (or slight more) buffer, with some sparsely placed physical separation to prevent the cars from entering the lane? Then the car can still stop/park besides the buffer, with enough space to open doors and unload, without interfering with bike traffic.
I also question the decision of just painting the buffer zone. Not sure if that is enough to put off some aggressive drivers using it as a express lane or temporary stop. Why not actual physical barriers? sure that is going to be more expensive, but it can be sparsely placed, and does not have to be permanent. Say one concrete block every 2 meters, is that such a big deal?
Yu — there will be temporary barriers installed in addition to the painted separation (something like this). There is a rendering in the staff report (don’t have the URL handy).
Dave> I don’t recall seeing anything about it anywhere else except for a small paragraph in a paper. I didnt see it on tv either. Spacing has bias for sure (dirty diesel anyone?) but it is hard to report when there is nothing happening.
Bike lanes good….Rossi bad…
Good on ya city for giving it a try…see A.Vaughan for correct wording. Look at the Burrard Street bridge bike…that too was touted to cause traffic mayhem…not so…I saw tonnes of people using it and cars went on their way with no additional traffic.
I do the like the idea of moving the parking lane out from the curb to create a bike lane. Protects the riders and saves money from investing in traffic control structures such a posts or barriers.
I say bring on the Bloor/danforth lanes (another trial), hell if traffic gets bad then get out of your car and take the tube..
that is all
Thanks, Brent. The barrier should make it much better.
