Until the Ward 19 candidates have published their detailed platforms, Joe Pantalone has no business endorsing anyone, unless all he cares about is political connections (which so far appear to be Mike Layton’s only distinctive qualifications in a race already heavy with green, transit-friendly types).
With no disrespect intended to the family involved, if I wanted to purchase a house and rip it down/rebuild with a modern box structure – I wouldn’t have picked the Beach – at least not without factoring in a budget for legal which would buy an entire house in most of the city. The reality is that there are developers who are looking for any angle to build monster homes and apartment blocks in the place of heritage structures down there, and I doubt they would hesitate to piggyback on this family’s project as precedent.
They should put sharrows in _both_ lanes on streets like College, King, and Queen. Not just the curb lane.
During the day, when the curb lane becomes parking, the only option for law-abiding cyclists is to move into the other lane. But they get squeezed out by aggressive drivers.
Car drivers need to be made aware that cyclists have the right to _both_ the lanes on those aggressive streets.
One candidate should promise to build the DRL. We need a mayor that will build the subway system by all means necessary, not some guy who makes excuses.
