  1. Qatar, Russia get World Cup [The Star]

    http://www.thestar.com/sports/soccer/worldcup/article/900265–england-humiliated-as-world-cup-heads-to-untapped-russia-qatar

This is relevant for Toronto for a couple reasons. First of all, had the US won the 2022 Cup, as it probably should have, MLS would have certainly moved to a winter schedule. That would have been a little tough on Toronto FC (gamed moved to Skydome in winter?) Second, we can now gape in astonishment as a city-state smaller than Toronto in population (and not much bigger than the GTA in area) will now end up with twelve large stadiums. Connected by subway. Wild.

  2. I’m too discouraged to read Spacing Toronto right now, and might be for the next four years. The headlines are almost too much to stomach.

  3. Nothing astonishing about what petro dollars can buy.
