Am I imagining this, or maybe you can collect some stats to prove this: the spacing articles are getting much less comments these days that they used to. Why? My feeling is that it has A LOT to do with the new look and layout of the site. It may look more “sophisticated”, but I suspect “discouraging comments and discussion” was not among the bullet points of the upgrade plan.
Hi Yu — Nope, about the same amount of comments. But a lot of commenting/sharing has moved to Facebook and Twitter. Our web stats also show us that more people are coming to the site with the new design since it’s easy to view it on all devices.
There is nothing in the new design that makes it more discouraging to comment.
I personally like the new spacing layout, I find it more modern, sleek and easy to use
Fair enough, Matthew, the mobile version has been a big improvement. I don’t think the same can be said of the desktop version though.
What is this Yu person talking about? The site looks amazing and I’ve actually noticed more interaction. Everything from fonts to white space to aggregating the other cities is Improved. It’s better than the Now and The Grid. Don’t get me started on the papers’ web sites! Though the Globe iPad app works well
Eloise,
you are entitled to your opinion. I was referring to the fact that there are visibly less comments and discussion following the articles on the desktop site. Matthew mentioned that traffic moved to facebook and twitter, which makes sense.
