  1. It was a good gesture on Smitherman’s behalf to cut those weeds (“Smitherman whacks weeds on St. Clair”). The city is sloppy when it comes to maintaining public spaces. Improvements are necessary.

    It doesn’t matter if it’s a prominent park like Queen’s Park or High Park, a high level of attention to detail simply doesn’t exist. The monument at Queen’s Park North, for instance, is a beautiful centrepiece on a mound that’s eroding around the plaque. There are generic benches with badly deteriorated paint around it. The attitude towards this space must be “who cares?” It comes right down to the garbage bin design in our parks, the ugly garbage bag in metal cage form, which spills the trash on windy days.
