Urban Planet is a daily roundup of  blogs from around the world dealing specifically with urban environments. We’ll be on the lookout for websites outside the country that approach themes related to urban experiences and issues.

It’s lunch time. Are you angling for some street meat? Chances are good that you’ll have to wander a little further from home if you are looking for a great street meal. Food and Wine Magazine profiles the top ten cities for street food, including Chicago, Marrakech and Ho Chi Minh City.

  1. Interesting list.  Toronto is no New York, and it’s no Portland either, but if Chicago and Melbourne can make this list then Toronto, a city that sits squarely between that pair on any city list of any kind, should be better than it is for street food.

  2. When you run the numbers, Toronto should top Portland as a street food destination: http://bit.ly/lR1FD2

Thankfully, Suresh Doss (organizer of food truck festivals across the city) and Hassel Aviles (organizer of the Toronto Underground Market) & the shipping container vendors at Scadding Court Community Centre are elevating the level of street food in TO, but we have a long way to go!
