Urban Planet: Insull’s Chicago Transit Posters

Read more articles by

Urban Planet is a daily roundup of  blogs from around the world dealing specifically with urban environments. We’ll be on the lookout for websites outside the country that approach themes related to urban experiences and issues.

Salon.com explores the unlikely artistic legacy of Samuel Insull, former assistant to Thomas Edison, co-founder of General Electric and owner of many Chicago area utilities and regional transit lines. Borrowing from the style of London’s underground posters, Insull’s branding campaign enticed riders to take transit with bucolic images of an accessible countryside and a clean city.
