I say we get the $5 million out of the police budget. They wrote more than 300% more tickets for panhandling related “offences” between 2004 and 2007 but it hasn’t made an ounce of difference (and by their own admission, too!).
I say we reduce the number of hours the cops spend on the street since they won’t need to hand out 10,000+ tickets to homeless people and put all that into the social workers. At the rate we pay cops, that oughtta be the whole $5 million price tag with some left over.
What isn’t fair about that?
