Join Friends of the Don East (FODE) as they add new species of trees and shrubs in an effort to create a wilder more diverse forest along the north bank of Taylor Creek. Meet fellow tree planters at the Haldon Ave Parking lot, below Stan Wadlow Park.

How many times have you heard that one person’s trash is another person’s treasure? It’s a familiar saying, and for good reason: it’s true! Bring your unwanted and unused “stuff” to your local Community Environment Day, hosted by your city councillor, and transform your trash into treasure.

WHAT: Community Consultation: June Callwood Park Design Competition

WHERE: Blue Barracks, Fort York (100 Garrison Rd.)

June Callwood Park will be designed and developed as a new park, situated northwest of Fleet St. and Bathurst St., in the Fort York neighbourhood. Join Deputy Mayor Joe Pantalone and representatives of the City of Toronto for a public discussion on the design competition process, program opportunities, and vision for the park.

WHAT: GET Smart! Speaker Series Present: Future Mobility featuring Rob McIsaac and Kevin McLaughlin

The monthly GET Smart! speaker series continues Tuesday May 13th with a focus on the future of transportation in the Toronto region, in association with Spacing magazine’s “Car and the City” issue.

What kind of changes are in the wind for public transit and roads in the GTA? How are cars part of the future? And what are the implications for small and medium sized business? Find out from Rob MacIsaac, Chair of Metrolinx, Kevin McLaughlin, Founder and CEO of Autoshare, and Mike Brcic, Executive Director, Bikes Without Borders. Tickets are $15 for general admission, and $10 for GET members (includes refreshments and snacks.)

WHAT: Hike with the Bruce Trail Association
WHEN: May 17, 10 am
WHERE: Meet at Broadview Subway Station

Come explore the central Don Valley, join Friends of the Don East (FODE) board member and Bruce Trail Conservancy hike leader John Routh as you follow informal trails in the Don Valley that even the mountain bikers say are challenging. Bring a bag lunch and wear sturdy footwear, this is a 15 km hike!

WHAT: Stiltwalking Workshop

Friends of Dufferin Grove Park are bringing back their drop-in community stiltwalking workshops! Stop by and give it a try, or brush up on your skills. Meet at the Field House in Dufferin Grove Park, that’s the small brick building near the soccer field. Make sure to wear comfortable shoes and clothing.
