It’s not totally unusual to see this sort of thing — DC Metro has a similar extension underway into Tyson’s Corners, VA — but it is really odd to see such an extension when the city itself is so starved for subway lines.
To me it indicates a pattern: Despite best efforts, underfunded GO fails to keep pace and provide frequent electric service, so the TTC subway morphs into GO’s commuter role and the TTC surface operations take over the subway’s Rapid Transit role. I thought Toronto would one day end up with a true transit net like Chicago or New York, but instead of Downtown Relief and finishing the Stubway we ended up as San Francisco, with a TTC that is part MUNI (LRT) and part BART (couple commuter line subways).
seems a bit fishy….get your priorities straight TTC!
am surprised that G&M’s John Barber’s piece on the Mayor stalling on election financing reform did not make it into the headline links. Here’s the link for those interested.

It’s not totally unusual to see this sort of thing. Indeed, the TTC built the subway into East York, Scarborough, Etobicoke, and North York!
