Starting this week, we present Spacing Films — short films based on articles that have previously appeared in Spacing magazine. The first four films will focus on our Hidden Gems feature.
St. Michael’s Cemetery is located near the Yonge and St. Clair intersection in Toronto. You cannot see or enter it from either of these main streets as the huge solitary green space is shielded by tall buildings and residential housing. It may be one of Toronto’s largest unknown open spaces.

Very nice. Simple but expresses the solemnity of the space well. Sorry we missed this on our recent trip to the city. Next time.
Thanks

Beautiful.
Thanks for this. It IS possible to see & enter the cemetery off Yonge St, but you need to keep your eye out for it while walking on the west side of Yonge & the entrance gate is locked most of the time. On occasional Sundays & holidays, the gate is open and it’s possible to wander in. I live in the neighbourhood & walk through any chance I can – it’s a hauntingly beautiful space & the gravestones express many stories. Those with Irish ancestry I think will be particularly moved.
How does one actually get in though?
Beautiful! Thank you for posting!
