What is going to cost more, buying locomotives that meet Tier 4 standards right when they come on the market, or electrifying the corridor right away, using technology that already exists?
This story has been spun so many times I’m dizzy.
It is rather astonishing to see Steve Munro argue AGAINST the positive environmental impact of transit:
“Trains are assumed to be full of passengers in both directions on all trips … Any travel removed from expressways will backfill with latent demand … While GO service may produce more capacity in the overall transportation network, it’s a big jump to expect that pollution will go down.”

Wow! A Toronto Sun editorial praising Nuit Blanche! (much to the chagrin of some ‘loyal readers’ I might add) This is a complete 180 from an event that has been frequently slagged by Youknowwho-Ann. Could this have something to do with more local businesses finally captilizing on the turnout and staying open until late?
It’s obviously too early to speculate on legacies, but it appears ‘His Blondness’ is having the last laugh on this one!
Yeah, this is pretty confusing! The conditions state that trains must use ‘tier 4’ diesel engines… which don’t exist yet. This is ‘supposed’ to be done by 2015 or is it 2031? And if these are the projected completion dates, then I think it’s safe to add another few years. And it’ll cost $30 one-way!?
I’m surprised that the Vital Signs Report has not been commented upon. If the headline read “80% of Torontonians can no longer afford bike helmets”, it would have received over 150 comments by now.
But really, who in Toronto cares what happens outside of the Condo Corridor these days?
I don’t understand how 1/3 young children can live in poverty. But I am concerned about income disparities.
