The condo story was so juicy I just had to send it to Curbed, the popular NYC real estate blog. Of course, they thought it might be a hoax, because who there in 2009 could imagine a “hot market” and lines for condos? The atmosphere for new development in Toronto and New York is now 180 degrees opposite. Fascinating.

I remember a few years back, Adam saying that he would rather spend the money on buses than a smart card system. It seems as if the TTC believes they can improve the system by simply throwing more buses into it.
Here is an idea, rather than simply throwing more 40 ft buses on to the streets (which end up bunching anyways), invest in some 60 ft articulated buses to carry more passengers, smart cards to allow for all door boarding and decrease load times, and add bus lanes with express branches which only stop at major intersections to speed up commutes. Also add 2 hour transfers so that commuters can get off the bus and do some shopping without worrying about spending an extra fare (and help the economy as well).
This way, you move just as many – if not more people and do it in a way that makes the service more attractive, and with lower labour costs as well. Of course, this requires some vision, something the TTC does not have. So instead, we just get more crappy and small Orion buses.
All the routes slated for Transit City should already have artics. TTC’s excuses in respect of artics:
1. They haven’t found one robust enough to last such that it can be rebuilt to go 20+ years.
2. The artics would be a small subfleet.
2 is crap. A TTC subfleet is an entire fleet elsewhere. 1 is merely fear of getting a Lastman mayor who will let the TTC go years without new buses.
I thing the x2 condo is over rated! the location is so close to the ghetto and lots of “hostel”, gays and gangs and drug dealing.
personaly I belive ” Ice” condo is at a much better location. well then again it’s also more expensive.
