After a very successful start with the Freie Internationale Tankstelle, or FIT, a “fueling station for the creative spirit” by Berlin artist Dida Zende, which took the form of a custom architecture built from shipping containers at the Waldorf Hotel, four new projects have been announced for the Goethe Satellite Vancouver.
The four projects are:
Goethe Satellite @ Fillip
Olaf Nicolai: Intangible Economies
November 2011 – Internationally renowned Berlin-based artist Olaf Nicolai, whose wide-ranging, conceptually-driven work often engages with notions of exchange and economy, will travel to Vancouver to participate in a 3-day forum from November 18-21 and develop a new art-work on the subject of Intangible Economies to be published in Fillip.
Goethe Satellite @ 221A
Material Arrangement
November 25 – December 16, 2011 – Curated by Jaz Halloran and Tracy Stefanucci for the emerging interdisciplinary organization 221A in connection with Berlin-based collective Mindpirates, Material Arrangement examines the role of graphic design in the visual environment. Artists Andy Chung, Christy Nyiri, Easton West and Anette K. Hansen will produce new works that will be shown in Vancouver and Berlin (January 2012) as well as circulating in OCW Magazine’s November issue.
Goethe Satellite @ Or Gallery
Exhibition by Annika Rixen
January 13 – February 18, 2012 – The Or Gallery Vancouver, which last year opened Or Gallery Berlin, the first international satellite space operated by a Canadian artist run centre, will produce a solo show by Berlin-based artist Annika Rixen.
Goethe Satellite @ Instant Coffee
Bild N Sound
February, 2012 – Vancouver and Toronto-based collective Instant Coffee, whose widely exhibited work highlights the relationship between form and social interaction, will collaborate with German curator Bernd Milla to produce Bild N Sound. During this live musical event three Canadian musicians or composers will play a live score for the films and videos selected by Milla.

The Goethe Satellite Vancouver is a two-year initiative of the Goethe-Institut with partner Revised Projects. The goal of the Goethe Satellite is to facilitate unique projects where artists, organizations and collectives have the opportunity to collaborate, perform, and show work that expands current artistic practices. The new projects were chosen after a call for proposals that brought impressive entries from established and emerging artists and curators in Germany, Canada and China.
An additional call for proposals to the Goethe Satellite Vancouver will be forthcoming in Fall 2011.
