Metro Vancouver has watered down its latest attempt to limit the construction of giant farmhouses that inefficiently eat up productive agricultural land.

Metro Vancouver is also debating the touchy issue of Indian Reserve voting rights with directors split over whether the regional district should try to block residents of Indian Reserves from voting in future civic elections.

The federal government announced it will provide $738,000 for a project to restore the eight-kilometre-long Bowker Creek – the headwaters of which lie on the University of Victoria campus. It looks like at least one Asian-themed night market will be coming to Richmond this summer! At a special council meeting, City of Richmond council voted 7-2 to refer a permit application from Raymond Leung’s Firework Productions to a March 19 public hearing.
City council will finally decide the market’s fate following the hearing. If accepted, the permit would allow a market to operate on a large vacant property at the north end of No. 3 Road, previously home to a cement plant, from May to October for the next three years. The site is next to River Rock Casino Resort.

Exciting news in West Vancouver as a draft of the new parks master plan was recently presented at the Gleaneagles Community Centre. The draft is the result of 18 months of working with district staff, community members and various organizations that operate within the parks system. The last time this municipality undertook a parks master plan was in 1977

And in Surrey, a new group called ReNewton is hoping to transform the former Surrey Public Market building on the corner of 64 Avenue and King George Boulevard into a vibrant community hub.
