The NCC wants to highlight Canadian artistic excellence to enrich the National Capital Region’s (NCR) visitors’ experience throughout the tourist summer season. Overlooking the Ottawa River and having spectacular views, the summer 2012 selected site will quickly become a popular venue.
InSitu Project
Public art is the intersection of art, people and urban spaces. The NCC InSitu project is designed to develop unexpected urban spaces by weaving public art works creatively and dynamically into their midst. It combines both functional and artistic elements at underutilized sites that have high creative potential. The combination of functional and artistic elements will showcase the NCR’s unique natural and built environments while animating these rest areas. The interventions may be interactive, musical, contemplative, fun or fantasy-based, but above all they must be inviting.
InSitu Project Artistic Elements – Temporary work of art
The art works created as part of this project will be temporary. Each year the NCC will invite artists to design completely new art works for the upcoming visitor season that will be installed on one of the sites of the network. This approach will diversify the art works, energize the spaces and allow the project to evolve with current trends.
